What is the length of foster placement? Fostering can last from a few days to a couple of weeks.  A typical foster arrangement would be to pick a puppy up from one of the foster pickup/drop off centers on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon or evening.  Care for the puppy until Saturday morning when you would deliver the puppy back to the pickup/drop off center for adoption.

What is involved with the home inspection? A foster program representative will make a brief home visit to ensure that a new foster home can meet basic requirements as required by the Pet Animal Care Act of Colorado.  Our license requires us to make this visit.  The home inspection usually takes place after the probation period is complete.

Foster Program Frequently Asked Questions
What if the foster puppy needs veterinary care?  If you feel your foster puppy needs veterinary care, call CPR immediately.  We will make arrangements for the animal to be seen. Only CPR can authorize medical attention or bills to be paid.  You may be asked to bring a foster puppy to us periodically for vaccinations.
What is expected of me as a foster parent on adoption days?  You will be required to bring your foster puppy to the pickup/ drop off centers at a time requested by CPR.  If you drop your puppy off at the adoption center you may stay if you like to show your foster to potential adopters.  Your first hand knowledge is an invaluable tool in helping locate a successful placement.  If you do not wish to stay, or if you drop off your puppy at the center in Aurora, we will ask you to fill out a puppy profile.
What if I find that I am no longer able to foster a puppy?  CPR prefers that you foster the puppy until we locate a permanent home, but if that is not possible, we will work with you to meet your needs and find other accommodations for the puppy.

I work 8 hours a day. Can I still foster?
Of course! Most of us work during the day and our adopters work too. It's good for the puppy to start crate training now so that it's easier for the puppy when his adopted family is gone for the day.

What if my foster puppy is having behavioral issues, is there someone I can contact for guidance?  Yes, contact CPR.  We will provide you with assistance or refer you to an appropriate resource.
What do I do if I decide to keep my foster puppy permanently? If you are fostering and decide that you want to adopt, inform CPR and we will work with you to initiate your adoption.
Do I have any say in who adopts my foster puppy?  CPR takes the desires of the foster parent into consideration when placing puppies into new adoptive homes.
How do I become a foster parent?  If you are still interested in becoming a foster home for CPR please request an application by emailing  foster@coloradopuppy.org.
